How to Use Google Search Console to Improve SEO

If you’re a digital marketer or website owner, it’s likely that you’ve heard of Google Search Console. It’s one of the most useful free tools provided by Google and can help you gain insights about how you can improve your website. Once installed on your site, it allows you to view detailed information about how often people visit your site and how they found you. You’ll also be able to track trends in search results over time and see exactly what keywords people are searching for when they find your content online. And last but not least: if there are any technical issues preventing Google from properly indexing pages on your site then the URL inspection tool will alert you so they can be fixed ASAP!

This free tool provided by Google can help you gain insights about how you can improve your website

  • You can use Google Search Console to see how people are finding your site. For example, you can see the number of pages indexed and how those pages rank in search results.
  • Use Search Console to check for crawl errors on your website. These could be due to incorrect URLs or other issues that prevent Googlebot from indexing all the content on your site. If there are any problems, find out what they are and fix them immediately so that users can easily find what they’re looking for when searching for it on Google!
  • You can use Search Console to target keywords that aren’t already ranking well in organic search results (or even improve rankings if they already are).

Confirm you own your domain

The first step in setting up a property is confirming that you are actually the owner of your domain. You can do this by visiting your Google Search Console and clicking on “Manage Sites.”

Once you’ve done that, click on “Search Traffic” and then in the drop-down select “Traffic from Search.” At the top of this page will be a list of all your websites managed through GSC. Click on any one of these sites to view its settings and data.

Now you’ll see three tabs at the top: Crawl, Index Status, and Diagnostics. In order to confirm ownership go ahead and click on Crawl > Crawl Settings (located under Site Configuration). Once here scroll down until you find “Sites with confirmed ownership”; click it to view all domains with verified ownership within GSC!

Check your sitemap

A sitemap is a file that lists all of the pages on your site, along with other information about them. Search engines can use this information to crawl and index your site more efficiently, so it’s important that you have one.

You can add a sitemap to your website by using either the HTML code generator in Google Search Console or an XML Sitemap Generator tool like Sitemap Generator or Online XML Sitemaps. Then you’ll want to check for errors—if there are any missing or broken links, this could cause issues for search engine crawlers.

Learn how Google crawls your site

The first section is “Crawl Stats.” This tells you how often Google crawls your site, how many pages it indexes and how many pages are indexed in total, as well as some information about the number of crawl errors that occurred on your site during the last month. The second section offers a list of webmaster guidelines that you should follow if you want to improve your visibility in Google Search results.

The third section is “Performance” and shows you a graph showing page load times over time and gives recommendations on how to make improvements if needed.

Get alerts about crawl errors

One of the most frustrating things about Google Search Console is that it doesn’t always notify you when something is wrong with your website. But it’s important to stay on top of this information, because crawl errors can be a big red flag for Google and negatively impact your site’s rankings.

To find out if there are any crawl errors on your site, look at the Crawl Errors Report under “Crawl” in the left menu. Here, you’ll see a list of all the pages that Google has found to have issues with loading properly or having broken links inside them. If there are any issues here (and if you’ve been following along with our other steps), now’s the time to fix them!

If you decide that a particular page needs fixing, head over there and click into more detail about what exactly went wrong—this will take you into another report where there are lots of helpful tips about how to resolve whatever problem caused this page not to load properly for search engines or users.

Learn how often people visit your site

Google Search Console (formerly Google Webmaster Tools) is a free tool that you can use to check on the performance of your website, including the number of visits to your site. This can be useful when deciding how much traffic you need to consider a particular keyword and also to learn more about how often people visit your site.

Target keywords to improve search rankings

To give you an idea of what a good keyword is, let’s take a look at some numbers:

  • A “good” keyword has a search volume of at least 1,000 monthly searches for the US alone. (This number may be higher or lower depending on your industry.)
  • A “great” keyword has between 10,000 and 50,000 monthly searches for the US alone.

If you’re not getting tons of visitors from Google each month and you want to improve your SEO, then it’s worth targeting keywords like these. You can use tools like Google Search Console to find out how many people are searching for any given term—and then choose which ones to target based on their relevancy to your business and whether or not they have enough volume (or potential) to be worth targeting in the long run.*To get started using this tool: Sign up here ____

Use the URL inspection tool to submit content for indexing and review errors

The URL inspection tool is a great way to make sure that your content is being indexed properly. It allows you to submit URLs for inclusion in the search index, and it also allows you to find out what the problem might be if your content isn’t being indexed. If a page isn’t showing up in Google Search results, but you know that it’s been published correctly, this tool can help pinpoint the problem.

If you do notice issues with links or images on one of your pages not displaying correctly (for example, if some of them are missing alt text), it may be because they’re broken or inaccessible from where bots can reach them. To fix this kind of image error:

  • Submit an individual URL for review by clicking “Index” next to its URL during submission
  • Review all submitted files within 24 hours and determine whether any need further human review before appearing in search results

Conclusion

At the end of the day, it’s not just about having a great website. It’s also important to make sure that Google can find it. That’s where Search Console comes in handy. By using this tool, you can check your site’s SEO health and identify any issues before they become problems. You can also use the URL Inspect Tool to submit content for indexing and review errors—or even get alerts about crawl errors if you’re feeling impatient!
